I hold the Ourso Distinguished Chair of Economics at Louisiana State University. I am also a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), a Research Fellow of Forschunginstitut zur Zukunft der Arbeit (Institute for the Study of Labor) (IZA), and an Affiliate of TUSIAD-Koc University Economic Research Forum (ERF).

My research is concentrated on public policy related issues in health economics, labor economics, economics of crime, law and economics.
